Celebrating Community Spirit at the World Cup Garden Party: A Day of Fun and Joy

Hareleeshill Community Garden came alive on Saturday, 27th June, with laughter, excitement, and the unmistakable buzz of a neighbourhood coming together. Our World Cup Garden Party was more than just a celebration of sport; it was a vibrant gathering that brought families, children, and friends into a shared space of creativity, play, and connection. From arts and crafts to a lively duck race, the day offered something special for everyone.
A Warm Welcome and Creative Fun
One of the highlight of the event was the arts and crafts corner, where children eagerly gathered to make up their own plant pots. This hands-on activity allowed kids to put together small plants to take home, encouraging a love for nature and responsibility for nurturing their new green friends. Paula also helped the kids design their own flags, charm bracelets and keyrings letting their creativity flow.
Whilst the crafts were underway, we also held a World Cup Duck Race where participants blew through a straw to see who could blow their duck to the other side of the 'pond' the fastest!
Exploring with the Scavenger Hunt
The scavenger hunt was another popular activity that encouraged children to explore the garden’s nooks and crannies. Armed with clues, kids searched for hidden items related to the World Cup and nature. This activity promoted teamwork and problem-solving, as children often worked together to find the treasures.
The scavenger hunt was designed to be accessible for all ages, with clues that varied in difficulty. Parents joined in the fun, making it a shared adventure. The hunt also helped children learn more about the garden itself, fostering a deeper appreciation for their local environment.
Treats for Everyone: Hot Dogs and Ice Cream
No garden party is complete without delicious food, and the World Cup Garden Party did not disappoint. Hot dogs were served fresh and warm, providing a satisfying meal for hungry kids and adults alike. Children enjoyed their treats, chatting excitedly about the day’s activities.
World Cup Bingo
To round off the day, Amanda from Backyard Bees then hosted a World Cup bingo, where kids tried to complete the honeycomb bingo card, all listed with different countries competing in the World Cup.
Building Community Through Shared Experiences
The World Cup Garden Party was more than a day of entertainment; it was a chance to strengthen community bonds. Events like this create opportunities for neighbours to meet, share stories, and build friendships. The garden itself serves as a welcoming space where people of all ages can come together.
