Make the Most of Your Poinsettia
The most traditional plant for the festive season is a poinsettia with around eight million being sold in the UK every year.
Their big red beautiful leaves have become a staple in many homes and most want to make sure their poinsettia will make it all the way to the Christmas dining table.
Despite coming all the way from Mexico these plants are fairly easy to keep fresh and healthy throughout the Christmas period and here is how:
· When buying your poinsettia make sure it is not outside, the winds and cold temperature mean than when you get it home the beautiful leaves will start to fall
· Poinsettia’s do not need a lot of water, you are wanting the soil to be somewhere in the middle of being dry and wet. If the leaves start to turn yellow you may not be watering correctly
· Make sure your poinsettia is close to the radiator to resemble the warm temperatures in Mexico
You can even keep your poinsettia for next Christmas, ensure that the plant is kept warm and around May repot the plant and keep it in a cool place. When November comes around make sure the poinsettia is getting 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness to ensure your plant is ready for the Christmas table in 2021!
